vermont historic church air bnb

I’m the kind of person that gets on air bnb to look up cool/weird places to stay for the fun of it. Which is how I stumbled upon a renovated 19th century church in small town Vermont. As soon as I saw the listing, I was obsessed. A stay in a historic church with stained glass?! I’m in! After a few messages with the hosts Rick and Liza, I quickly found out they were retired stained glass artists and had originally bought the church to be their studio before eventually turning it into their home.

After meeting and chatting with Rick and Liza in person, they showed me into their side of the church and told me a bit about their studio which was “Neumann Studios". They were a full-service studio offering consultation, design, fabrication and installation, as well as restoration services. The air bnb features pieces the hosts had made in their glass career, showing off their very impressive designs with kiln-fired paintwork.

The air bnb is in Brattleboro,Vermont, a small and quirky New England town. There are tons of local businesses to explore, I really enjoyed the record shop and thrift stores. There’s also two covered bridges and an apple picking farm a short drive away (which of course I had to do!) The church is located in the former Swedish Congregational Church in historic Swedeville, a secluded hilly neighborhood built by Swedish immigrants in the 1800's. It has everything you need for a comfortable getaway. Waking with the glass pieces lit up by the morning light was a very special treat. The link to the air bnb is here, be sure to book in advance especially if you want an autumn experience.
